Discover Their Dream Life

The Secret To Overcoming Any Obstacle

If you’re like me, you have so many “hopes” and dreams. And this is the time of year that those hopes and dreams come to the surface and the forefront of your mind.
What would you like to see happen in up the coming holiday and the New Year?
Do you have a long list of things you would love see happen in the future?
Or do you even know what you want?
Here is a list of things we are not entirely happy with. Sometimes we are not happy with the way our life is going but we don’t know what we truly want so we keep searching.
Most lists look like this:
• Spiritual growth
• Find Love
• Financial freedom
• Weight loss
• Anger management
• Personal breakthroughs
• And really this list could go on and on.
But there’s a little problem.
Have you ever notice that other people, not you, but other people never follow through with changing anything thing in their lives.
We all have the New Year’s Resolution to lose weight.
We have New Year’s Resolutions to find a new love.
We have New Year’s Resolutions to make more money.
OK maybe that is just me
But really how many of us really follow through on that?
The reason for this is because we lack confidence.
We lack the confidence in ourselves and in God
Many of us hope for things but aren’t really sure God is for us.
Or God wants us to have the dreams of our heart
We lack confidence in whether our “dream” is His will or if it’s our own idea… and that keeps us stuck.
Spiritual insecurity stops us.
And our greatest obstacle is unbelief.
Can you relate at all to what I am saying?
Until you are assured of God’s intentions, you become like the double-minded man in James 1, tossed to and fro because you have no biblical permission to be ALL IN.
I know I have been guilty of this.
I believe this is one thing that is not really talked about in our churches today
This hindrance to fully pursuing our dreams…
We don’t know if it really is God’s approval in YOUR goal setting.
I am here to tell that this is a big fat lie.
That’s right a HUGE LIE!
A lie that the Devil uses to Kill, Steal and Destroy Your family.
The Devil wants to be stuck forever. He wants you to be confused.
Because the truth is
If your dream or dreams line up with the word of God
Then My Beautiful,
God placed it there.
(you can’t go rob a bank because you feel it help you with your money problems)

God gives us dreams and desires that line up with the gifts and talents He has given us.

God wants you to go after your dreams.
Yes, there will always be obstacles in our way and valleys we need to walk through but really we need to keep going and keep our eye on our dreams.
A Bible verse that popped out at me today as I was reading today was
Colossians 4:12
Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured.
God is out there battling for our dreams.
So how in the world do we take the word of God and apply to your everyday life?
What are the steps that we need to take?
Ok, so I am all about the steps. I am the type of person who loves to plan and check off the items on the list.
Ok so if you are not one of those people then you can still get a lot out of this.
When you take a dream, a desire that has been burning in your heart, and it has not gone away after time has passed and may have gotten stronger than this is from God and you need to take from your heart and put it out in the real world. It’s permission to believe… and then, by God’s grace, to achieve.
Caleb is an example of how to do it. He knew that God had given the Israelites the land of Canaan so he took the problem of the giants in the land and placed it in the larger context of the promise of God. The result was this famous statement:
“Let us go up at once and take the land, for we are surely able to overcome it!”
Caleb had to first know and fully believe God’s promise.
In other words, God’s promise was the catalyst for Caleb’s boldness.
It can be ours too.
Ok, so you all know I am all about journaling out your dreams and feelings so let’s all get out a notebook and work on these questions together.

1. What is ONE thing your heart has desired for a long time now?

2. What is the biggest obstacle keeping you from accomplishing it?

3. What promise from God’s word applies to the “desire” you wrote in step one? This serves as your dream life and is your permission to be a “can-do” Caleb.

So you may be wondering but Terra “I don’t know what my heart desires are?
I am here to tell you that all you have to do is ask
James 1:5 says that if we lack wisdom, ask God and He will give it generously! So ask Him for the wisdom to know His will and for a promise you can cling to. You can scroll to the bottom of this email for some of my favorite promises.
Ok so taking the dreams and desires you wrote in step 1,

List Out All Your Dreams

Yep, go ahead and write along the border of a piece of paper you wrote down your dreams. Write everything you would be doing if you had no roadblock if you had no obstacles.
Remember, this is your permission to believe.

Write Out All Your Blocks:

Take some time and write out all the blocks that you think you have…

Write them all out.

Now, take the obstacle you listed in step two and place it in the context of the promise “frame”. You can even use Caleb’s statement as your framework. Simply insert your problem and promise from God into the blanks as follows:

Let us go up and take (your ONE thing from step 1) for we are surely able to overcome (the problem from step two).
That’s it! See how simple it is?
You can do this with every dream you have, any desire that you feel is too big for you and even for God. Let Him know you struggle with this. He will help you and guide through this dream.
Valleys are inevitable. Challenges are going to happen. Obstacles and hurdles are part of life.

But Our God is bigger!

Always remember that your greatest work is the work of faith, to believe God means what He said, will do what He promised, and is who He is.
That’s what promises are for! Our faith must rise to the challenge.
In the meantime, I’ll leave you with Deuteronomy 30:11:
“For this commandment which I command you today is not too difficult for you, nor is it out of reach.”
Remember You are the Daughter of the Most High God
