What Fake News Has Taught Me About Loving My Neighbor
“Oklahoma’s Republican Governor Mary Fallin ridiculed the teacher in her state who are demanding better wages by comparing them to “teenagers who want a better car.” Oklahoma ranks 49 in teacher pay, but their governor thinks they should just shut up. Spread her Shame.
Dear Parkland Activists: You admit to bullying the shooter, But Blame Guns and the NRA? (showing the young adults “saluting like the Navies)
This goes on back and forth all day every day on my news fed.
Oh how I long for the days of when it was just friends baby pics, and my friends going vacation.
However, I can’t change the whole world and I can’t change anyone of my friends on FB. I do just want a simple and carefree News Fed but I know I have to face reality and face what is really going on the world.
I can, however, change the world in my own world and I can change how I see things.
I can make a positive impact in someone’s life.
I chose to see the world as a positive place. A place where there is good and love.
I chose not to see anyone who doesn’t agree with me as the enemy.
So how in the world we love others when it seems like everywhere you go there is someone who doesn’t agree with you….
“Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples” ~John 13:35
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” ~John 10:10
Let’s take a look at a couple of things you can do today to make the world a better place.
1. The easiest thing to do is love the person right in front of you: Everyone has a story, you never know what others are going through right now. So when you are traffic let the person trying to get over, over. When you are sitting on the bus, talk to the person next to you. Let the checker at the grocery store that they are doing a great job.
2. Invite Your Neighbors Over for Dinner:
Really what is more loving then making a meal for someone. It doesn’t have to be fancy, you can even order in pizza. Or have BBQ in the backyard. Just spend time getting to know them. Listen to their story, tell stories and just laugh.
3. Talke To Other People:
When your kids have sports or activities don’t just sit on your phone waiting, talk to the other moms or dads there. Listen to them and their stories.
4. Share Food With Someone:
Take food to a neighbor who is struggling. Ask them how they are doing? And really listen to what they have to say.
One thing I have started doing is giving away blessing bags. Which include personal items and some money for a homeless person. I try to always have one of each for men and women. For the women’s blessing bag always include a few pads or tampons, because these items are really hard to come by for homeless women.
I hope this gives you a little bit of hope for the world we are living in today. Not everything is as bad as seems.
Not everyone is the enemy when we start talking and listening to one another.
When we start listening to each other and being a blessing to others that is when we can see real change in the world.
We can make the world a better place for everyone!
