How To Move Beyond “Waiting On The Lord”

Ok, so there is something I would like to get off my chest. That I see happen all too often. In my women’s Bible Study Class this morning we sang the song Trust in You by Lauren Daigle.
Now I chose not to sing this song for many reasons really, but the main reason is that I don’t believe for one moment that this is based on Biblical teachings at all.
However, most of the women in my Bible Study class love this song and thought the song was so fitting for our new study.
I really wanted to say something but it is not my home church and I didn’t want to offend anyone.
But this is my blog and my page and I can say what is mind.
The reason why I have such a hard time with a song is that it is a…
W A T I N G O N T H E L O R D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I truly believe down in my soul and the message that I am to share with the world is to stop waiting on the Lord and go after your dreams!
God wants you to go after your dreams and goals and to stop using “waiting” as an excuse for not getting what you want out of life.
I did a quick search of the Bible verse of “Waiting on the Lord” and it came back with 100 verse on waiting. So with each scripture, I went to my Bible and underlined the verse and then read a few lines above the verse and few lines below the verse, this is a very important step to take to get a clear understanding of what is really being said.
What I found was shocking.
Not one verse talked about waiting on God to bring you a man
Not one verse talked about waiting on God to bring you a job
Not one verse talked about waiting on God to bring a house
Not one verse talked about waiting on God to go after your dreams and goals.
No, not one
What they did talk about was
Trust on the Lord.
One thing that has helped me in my journey to become closer to God is reading a different translation of the Bible each year.
This year I am reading the New Living Translation.
In this translation the word wait was TRUST.
I believe this is a much more clear translation of what God wants us to Do.
Wait on the Lord to FIGHT OUR ENEMIES.
In no way are we to go and take revenge on our enemies we are to WAIT ON THE LORD to take care of them.
That is waiting I can get behind.
Because you can not change anyone. You can’t change their mind or their actions so you have to wait on the Lord to deal with them in the way He sees fit.
When you start reading around the one verse about waiting you can see it is not sitting around waiting on the Lord to drop your dream life into your lap.
He is talking about Trusting Him and letting Him deal with people you don’t like.
Ok so now back to the song
The chorus
“When you don’t move the mountains
I’m needing you to move
When you don’t part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When you don’t give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust
I will trust in You”
Oh man, I don’t even know what to say.
But my soul does cry out about how wrong this message is.
Ok, first things first,
However, trusting in the Lord and waiting on the Lord or two different things.
Singing is such a powerful message to our soul.
Think about it how many songs do you remember from your childhood.
How many jingles do you remember?
When we hear music, all the lyrics come back to you in a flood of memories.
So when you hear the Verse “When you don’t move the mountains I’m needing You to move,” you are telling yourself a lie.
A lie that you have to hold back on your dreams.
A lie that you can’t have the goals you want to accomplish.
The Bible clearly states that Yes when you have the Faith of a mustard seed you can move mountains.
“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them, I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20
So yes that is going against what Jesus and God are saying.
I love this quote about going after your dreams and goals:
“My greatest fear is the fear of an ordinary life. It’s the fear of not actually living. The fear of my life being cut short but having never actually painted the colors my mind is full of. The fear of not having stories to tell. The fear of lying in my death bed, and not having used the gift of life wisely. I fear being defined by one career or by one place. People always tell you to face your fears, but I have a hard time believing that this is a fear I should set aside. This is the fear that motivates me and I hope it’s here to stay.” – Emily Pelland, @hikingwithheels
I don’t want your greatest fear be not actually living the life of your dreams.
God placed goals and dreams into your heart. For you Honor Him with your gifts and talents.
And the one goal that the Devil has is for you to “Wait on the Lord” and wait and wait until nothing happens.
My prayer for you is you go out today and do something that scares you but moves you forward toward your goal!
And here are a couple of Bible verse for you go over and read. Learn what the meaning is behind waiting on the Lord.
Psalm 27:11-14
Psalm 37: 7-9
Isaiah 40:31 (this is one that says trust)
“But those who TRUST in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. “
Isaiah 8:12-17
Psalm 62:5-9
This is your time. It is now time to take that step into faith and trust in the Lord.
Because my beautiful Queen you can go after your dreams.
No matter what they are….
Stronger Faith
Prayer Warrior
A man
A dream job
A dream house
Beautiful Children
Awesome Friends and Family
Go on adventures
Dream Big or Go Home.
So the next time one suggest that you “wait on the Lord” you can politely say yes I am waiting on the Lord to take care of my enemies. In the meantime, I am going to Trust in Him and go after my dreams.
Remember You are the Queen of Your Life
