What does God Think About Wealth and Abundance?
Wealth and Abundance? What does God think
So, what does God say about wealth and abundance?
Are we to have wealth and abundance in our lives?
There was a time when I was shopping at Costco, and I would have a running monologue in my mind ….
Oh, I can’t get that I don’t have enough.
Nope, that is not on the list. Can’t get that.
Will this be enough food to last two weeks?
I would have a running total in my head of how much I was spending.
I would round out too, so I wouldn’t go over my budget.
I had a scarcity mindset.
I was not trusting God as should be.
And this was leading to more scarcity and more struggle that I didn’t want or need.
There seems to be two camps when it comes what Churches preach these days…
One is the “prosperity” church that if you really love God then you will have all the money in the world handed to you and everything is perfect….
Or that to become more Christlike the churches preach that you should give up all your worldly possessions and riches and follow Jesus being poor.
Ok, so the truth is that they are both right and both wrong at the same time …
And yes, you can live your life too in both camps …
One lie that seems to be going around Churches is that Jesus was poor and homeless.
That is far from the case …
Do you remember what gifts he got when he was born?
One of the best stories in the Bible about living in abundance is the story of 2 Fish and 5 Loaves of Bread.
Now the disciples did have a scarcity mindset when the little boy came to Jesus with the food he had brought.
“We don’t’ have enough” was the disciples respond to the offering.
Oh boy, can I relate to that?
When I would go shopping with adding up everything in the cart.
They didn’t believe that there would be enough to feed more than 5000 people.
He had the faith of abundance.
“Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him. (it was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration.) Jesus soon saw a huge crowd of people coming to look for him. Turning to Philip, he asked, “Where can we buy bread to fee all these people?” He was testing Philip, for he already knew what he was going to do. Philip replied, “Even if we worked for months, we wouldn’t have enough money to feed them!” John 6: 3-7
Ok, I am going to pause right there, read the last part again …
EVEN IF WE WORK FOR MONTHS, WE WOULDN’T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO FEED THEM!
Does anyone ever feel like?
Is just me as I walked down the aisles of the store…
Thinking I could work and work for months but I would never have enough Money to feed them all!
“Then Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, spoke up. “THere’s a young boy here with five barley loaves and two fish. But what good is that with a huge crowd?”
“Tell everyone to sit down,” Jesus said. So they all sat down on the grassy slopes. (The men alone numbered about 5,000) Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God and distributed them to the people. Afterward, he did the same with the fish. ANd they all ate as much as they wanted.” John 6: 8-11
Ok so yes God wants us to live an abundant life. He wants us to trust him to give us all of our daily bread. We are to GIVE THANKS FOR THE BLESSINGS THAT GOD IS ABOUT TO GIVE US. Did you catch that Jesus Thanked God for both the bread and the fish? Not just one prayer but he prayed over both.
He had no doubt there would be enough.Jesus had no doubt there would be enough. Click To Tweet
“After everyone was full, Jesus told his disciples,“Now gather the leftovers, so that nothing is wasted.” So they picked up the pieces and filled twelve baskets with scraps left by the people who had eaten from the five barley loaves.” John 6:12-13
There was so much for everyone to eat that there were 12 baskets of leftovers.
THERE WERE LEFTOVERS!
Yes, when you believe and have an abundance mindset there is always more than enough.
An awesome faithful thing to pray for and say when you are at the store about to pay is:
I always have money left over.
Now, this goes with money and faith.
You see there are two different types of Churches and like I said they are both right and both wrong.
God wants you to have an awesome and amazing life full of abundance, but does that mean your life is going to be perfect?
Well no, that is where the other side comes in.
Do we need to be content with what we have?
Yes, we do but there is nothing wrong with wanting more.
The quickest way to get out of scarcity mindset is to think two thoughts instead….
I live in God’s abundant world.
An abundant life is all around me.
That is really it.
When you are having a moment when you are paying bills when you are checking out at the store. Repeat these little prayers. Let God know that you have a strong FAITH in Him and you trust in this abundant life.
You can take it further but really when you start to think different things will turn around for you.
You will start to live your life differently.
Remember you are the daughter of the most High God.
