Discover Their Dream Life

Why Time Management Is More You Than Time.

Ok so let’s talk about Time Managaent…. Don’t you just hate that word, I mean come on it is so boring and blah….

I was the type of woman who thought if I had the perfect day planner, if I could just have the right morning schedule then my life would be perfect. My day would just go flawlessly and effortlessly

But for some reason I could never find the right day planner, I could never find the perfect routine, I would be running through the day exhausted and not having enough time to get everything I wanted to get done.

The laundry wasn’t done …

The dinner was half cooked…

The kids were still alive but did I actually spend any real time with them today …

Let alone to work on work on my book or have some me time.

I was just winging and I was hating it.

That was until I found a wonderful little secret …

God called the light “day” and the darkness “night.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

 Gen 1:6-16

“Then God said, “Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth.”And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. God called the space “sky.” And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day. Then God said, “Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear.” And that is what happened. God called the dry ground “land” and the waters “seas.” And God saw that it was good. Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened. The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day. Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars.”

Have you noticed the pattern here …

An evening passed and morning came

An evening passed and morning come

The first time this really struck me was a few years ago when I was feeding two babies and for the 3rd night in a row the “tooth fairy” forgot to come. Oh, the mom guilt I felt over that. But the next morning I was reading the Bible, because you know feeding again….

And it hit me that the God always started with the evening passed and the morning came. It was never the morning passed and evening came, it got me thinking, I would love to tell you that was it I had found the answer to my problem.

But really we both know that God doesn’t work that way…

No, of course, a few months go by before I even think again about how to manage my time better.

The babies were sleeping better but I was still a mess.

I was still tired all the time and had no schedule that was working for our family.

But then I remember from a long time ago that a good way to have a great morning was to set your clothes out the night before.

The idea to set out the clothes the night before seems like that was something I could do with older one to at get something right in the mornings.

So I tried it.

And tried it some more,

You know what happened?

My kids were getting to the bus on time.

Yes honest to God out the door dressed and ready to go.

So I moved on the whole backpack thing of making sure the packed everything they would need for the next day.

I remember thinking “This is Awesome!!!”

But there was still the problem of getting a shower every day, There was still a problem of always feeling rushed and anxious feeling that I didn’t know I had.

Right now I as write this we are on summer vacation and I love it because I am not on the schedule and I don’t have to rush anywhere.

But really I know the time is coming and it is coming up fast.

So I was wondering how in the world that I could get that done.

I mean I wanted to

I am kind of addicted to reading self-help books, Ok confession time I listen to books on Audibles.

But I love them and I make my kids listen too.

But really what got me out of bed and getting a shower every day and working out, and eating healthy was a book. “How To Get Your S**t Together”.

But really what changed me from that rushed mother who was always late to the Hot Cool Mom who shows up at school with homemade cupcakes is learning how long it takes me to do things. Like really how long does it take to make homemade cupcakes? Because before I put into practice of learning how long everything took. I was just winging it.

By the way, it takes me a total time of making cupcakes 1 hour and 37 minutes. (does not include bake time)

Ok, you may be asking really you know how long it takes to make cupcakes, why yes I do.

Because I timed myself before I even had to take them to school for the bake sale. So yes know I know how long it takes me to do everything.

It takes me 20 minutes to shower and shave and pray.

It takes me another 20 to 30 minutes to dry off, put on makeup and/or dry my hair.

It takes me 19 minutes to drive to Bible Study

It takes me 17 minutes with drive time and drop off time to take the twins to preschool.

Now, why is this all little things that seem unimportant stuff going to help you with your time management?

It is the little things that make up our day.

Getting Your Stuff Done:

The first step into getting your stuff done is knowing how long it is going to take you to do everything.

The first step into getting your stuff done is knowing how long it is going to take you to do everything. Click To Tweet

Because really if I tell myself that I am going to take a quick 5 minute shower, but then I get in and realize that I have to shave, then I have totally already ruined my time management.

So really don’t start anything yet. I know Mel Robins won’t agree with that but wait for just a moment. Because this is important to figure out before you move any further.

Along with this book, you will find a couple of PDF forms that will help you in your journey to Queenhood.

Go ahead and check out PDF’s that are called Time Management: Do you really know how you’re spending your time?

In those pages, you will see where you can write out how long it takes you to do all of your shit….

  • Like how long it takes you to get ready in the morning…
  • How long is the drive to work/school/daycare
  • How long it takes to cook something
  • How long it takes you to write or be creative

All of these are important and there is no wrong answer this is just about you and what you do during the day.

If you have little ones at home … how long to fed and change them

If you work ….. how long does it take to a project done?

Those types of things.

And do this over a course of a few days or a week.

Ok, so now that you have spent some tracking your everyday things it is now time to make a realistic to do list.

Now if you are anything like me then you may or may no in the past made a huge list of everything that you would like to get done during the day.

The problem with that is…

You will not get everything done.

And you will end up feeling like a failure.

And you beautiful Queen are not a failure.

So what should you be doing instead?

Pick 5 things that you must get done during the day.

No more than 5.

My Top 5 Are:

  • Reading the Bible/Praying
  • Working out
  • Writing
  • Getting my message out there
  • Spending down time with hubby/kids

Now when I do all of that, then I feel like it has been a great day.

I can go to bed feeling like I really did do something.

So go ahead and take some time to think about what will make you feel like you had an awesome day.

Now is time to actually put in your “TO DO” List…. Now, this is actually to do this not a wish list.

Remember you are a Queen so what can you delicate out… Your spouse/partner, your kids, or hire someone?

If your kids are old enough to use a smartphone they can work the washer and dryer.

I will leave with this

A Time for Everything:

For everything, there is a season.

A time for every activity under heaven.

A time to be born and a time to die

A time to plant and time to harvest.

A time to kill and time to heal.

A time to tear down and ta time to build up

A time to cry and a time to laugh

A time to grieve and a time to dance

A time to scatter stones and time gather stones

A time to embrace and a time to turn away

A time to search and a time to quit searching

A time to keep and a time to throw away.

A time to tear and time to mend

A time to be quiet and a time to speak

A time to love and a time to hate

A time for war and time for peace.
