The Only Time Management Secrets You Will Ever Need

As a mom, I struggle all the time with getting everything done.  I feel like I am always going from one thing to the next. I was allowing my days to rule me instead of the other way around.

I wanted to go to bed each night feeling like I had some control over my day. I wanted to feel peaceful in the midst of all the chaos.

WAS THIS TO MUCH TO ASK?

I would cry out to God and screech on Pinterest as any normal mom would do.

I would try one thing and that wouldn’t work in my busy chaos days.

As a Pastors wife and mother of 6 trying to become an Author, I knew that I needed to get a handle on my days.

So I set out with the help from God to find the perfect way to plan my day.

Here are some little secrets I have found from the most organized moms in the world….

START THE NIGHT BEFORE:

Yes I know it sounds a little off but really we need to start planning for the Day the night before. If you have little ones start with putting their clothes out of they are going to wear.  This helps tons a when you have to leave the house on short notice.

Also when planning your day… start the night before and fill out all the things that you need to do.

What are the top three things that have to get done for that day?

Plan on when you are going to work out

Plan on when you are going to write

Plan on when you are going to play with the kids

Plan on when you are going to play with your husband

All of these are important to taking control of your day.

NIGHT OWL OR EARLY BIRD?

This is critical….

I use to fall into the trap that I had to get really early before my kids so I could have time to read the Bible, pray, and just have time to myself…

The problem with this….

I am not a morning person.

I would take me forever to wake up and actually get moving in the morning.

So I started to change. I would stay up until about 11 or 12 and then get up at 6. Still before my kids but not the 4:30 or 5 that I thought I needed to do.

And you know what I find that I get some much more done during the day.  I still use about 30 minutes to an hour to read my Bible and pray but I can just spend time with the Lord drinking my coffee without really having to engage my brain just yet.

This has worked so well for me.

For you, you must figure out who you are.

Which one works for you.

You may want to change up it a little

But the thing is you have to do what works for you.

We all have chaos in our lives we just need to embrace it.

NAPTIME/PRESCHOOL

If you have babies or littles at home… this is the perfect time to get some work done. This is not the time to take a shower or catch up on last nights TV shows.  This is the time to follow through on your top 3 things that have to get done for the day.

This has so helped me with not having to get up as early I was.  I wait until I drop off my twins at preschool and then as soon as I get into the car I start working….

(Next year they will be in Kindergarten. FREEDOM! )

Anyhoo

Moving on….

Naptime and preschool time is not the time to clean house, take a shower or any other thing that will not take you to your next level.

The key when you are Working Stay-At-Home mom is you have to work in a little burst of time.

So use NAPTIME to your advantage.

YOU WILL DIE WITH THINGS STILL LEFT ON YOUR TODO LIST

Ok so I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer but yes, it is true that you will never complete your today list. And really that is OK.

We are meant to get everything done.

You must prioritize what is truly important to you.

The best way to figure out how to really know what is important to you…..

Make a list of everything that you want to do during the day, everything that needs to do during the day, and who you want to be during the day.

Write out everything that you can think of….

Do it now while you are thinking about it.

I will wait……………

Ok now that you have your list….

Take the top two on your list, which one is more important?

Cross off the least important one.

Next, take the next item on your list and compare it to the task you thought was most important….

Which one now is more important?

Keep doing this until you complete the whole list,

After you have done this you will have what is #1 goal of the day to get done. Do this 3 or 4 more times to come up with the most important tasks of the day.

When doing this forget the “shoulds”

“I should do this….

“I should be doing this….

Forget those what you should be doing is working on your goals and creating your dream life.

You can’t be doing that unloading the dishwasher while the babies take a nap….

Hire a housekeeper or have your husband do it.

Remember You are the Daughter of the Most High God….

XOXO
